How ClipDown works
ClipDown is a web-based tool that processes video URLs on your behalf. When you paste a URL, here is what happens:
- URL validation: ClipDown validates the URL format on the server to confirm it is a recognizable and safe URL.
- Platform detection: ClipDown determines which platform the URL belongs to (Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube).
- Metadata fetch: ClipDown requests available video information from a configured provider, including title, thumbnail, author, and duration.
- Download options: Available download formats and quality options are retrieved and displayed.
- Download: You select your preferred option and initiate the download.
All URL processing happens server-side. Your API keys and configuration are never exposed to the browser.

What ClipDown does not support

- Private or restricted content
- Content protected by DRM
- Content requiring platform authentication
- Age-restricted content
- Members-only or paid content
- Live streams (in progress)
How to download a video — general steps
Navigate to the public video on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube.
Use Share > Copy link in the app, or copy the URL from your browser address bar.
Use the Video Downloader or the platform-specific tool for your video.
Paste the URL into the input field and click Download. ClipDown will analyze the video.
Choose from the available quality options and click Download to save the file.
Privacy & data
ClipDown does not store your submitted URLs in any database. URLs are processed in real time and discarded after a response is returned. We do not collect personal data, require accounts, or track individual users.
